Kaikoura is overlooked by majestic mountains – snow-capped for many months of the year – that also offer unique eco-tourism opportunities. There is also a great range of history and art activities, and a very strong sense of Maori culture. Getting around is very easy – walking is popular, and even out on the water it is easy to find cruises to the wildlife, kayaks to get up close and personal, and affordable flights to see it all from the air!

There is a range of accommodation from boutique to B & B, luxury apartments to backpackers. The range of cafes will impress you and, not surprisingly, fresh local seafood is prominent on menus – although dishes such as Canterbury lamb are just as common, and accompanied by superb local wines.
