About Us

Online Tourism TV provides an effective opportunity for all tourism-based businesses to be found on the internet, without it costing the earth.

There is around 15,000 tourism-related businesses in New Zealand.  Most have a website but only very few will ever make it to the front page of Google.

Online Tourism TV laptopOur Mission: Online Tourism TV is an affordable and efficiently-managed internet video directory service, which makes it easy for viewers (browsers) to locate all those websites that relate to New Zealand tourism, for the purpose of information, planning or booking.

Websites have now gone beyond still photos. The demand by users is for moving pictures — video or slideshows. This is "as close to experiencing the product before actually trying it". Online Tourism TV uses that trend as an anchor, to provide businesses with what is needed and to give users what they want.

Users will easily find those businesses that are listed with us — either by region, or by activity type. The Online Tourism TV site is simple, uncluttered and instantly understandable by the user. Each listing is given its own prominent space for the movie, the write-up and contact details including live email, and a direct link to that operators own website. It's clean — and it works!

Further, Online Tourism TV will even get those moving pictures onto the prominent social networks such as You Tube, Facebook and Twitter! And a link to the movie for the operator's own emails can also be provided.

Should a tourism-related business not have moving pictures already, Online Tourism TV can use existing digital photos to create a slide show, complete with sound, for as little as $199 + GST!

Online Tourism TV works closely with the three major social networking sites, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. Here's how these sites can help your organisation.

The idea behind YouTube is that it is a platform for those who want to share their video content with others, and to watch videos and make comments. YouTube has become a means of social networking that draws people together, attracted by the common theme of video. It is easy to use, is completely free for users to watch and to upload an unlimited amount of content.

To help the appeal and usability of the site, no matter what format a video might be in, YouTube will convert every video to the web's most universal video player, Flash. This means that almost every user with an up-to-date browser is able to use YouTube. Videos can be tagged (create a link) and connected to emails and blogs as video or text.

So it is hardly surprising that YouTube now attracts millions of users every day, and the following continues to grow. Politicians have turned to YouTube for campaigning, and advertising agencies now include it in their media lineup. YouTube has become the most popular social network on the Internet, and it is said that "YouTube is poised to become one of the most influential websites on the internet" (source: "Open Content — the people's media company").

Facebook was founded in early 2004 by a student at Harvard University, as a network limited to students at Harvard. Membership was then expanded to other Ivy League colleges, then to any university student, then high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over.

Facebook is easy to use, letting members stay in touch with old friends, share pictures, send messages and keep blogs. Membership of Facebook instantly offers the ability to connect with friends, relatives, former classmates and business associates. Members create their own personal profile, in which they share basic information about themselves — where they live, their job, interests — even religious and political views if they want! This information can be used to search for others who have given the same information, and signing up for particular networks on Facebook is another way to identify others with the same interests, who will then be suggested as friends. Facebook offers a variety of applications that can be used for work or play.

With a membership of more than 120 million active users worldwide, Facebook is now the second largest social networking site, behind YouTube.

Twitter started in May 2007 and quickly became an internet sensation. It is probably best described as an online text messaging service. New users need to create an account, which is free, and build a profile, including a picture. This is then linked to a cell phone, web page or SMS messenger programme, allowing the user to send and receive messages, called 'tweets'. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length, which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as 'followers').

Twitter has quickly become widely accepted not just for personal use, but for business too — it is one of the fastest growing social media marketing tools. This can include article marketing, promoting website traffic to specific websites and simply networking to stay in touch, allowing thousands of people to see messages instantly.
