The Royal Albatross Colony is the ONLY mainland colony in the world!

Located in Dunedin, at Taiaroa Head on the tip of the beautiful Otago Peninsula, the visitor centre offers a comprehensive insight into these beautiful birds, which you will see at close range.  Pray for a strong wind during your visit - the Albatross is the giant of the ocean skies, and they appear unaffected by wind!  You will be left in awe!  Learn more about them - click HERE.

As well as being surrounded by wonderful bird and marine life, under the ground is Taiaroa Fortress - you can explore the tunnels and turrets that make up this fortress, and you can see the magnificent "Disappearing Gun", the only one in the world that is in working order.
