www.tepo.co.nz Te Po is the evening experience offered by Te Puia – visit Te Puia. In Maori tradition, Te Po is ‘the night’ – and it is a very important time. It is a time for sharing. You are invited to share a feast of food, culture and friendship. Te Po is a relaxed evening. It begins at the Marae (the gathering place) with the sound of the trumpet, blown to alert the host tribe that visitors are approaching. This is followed by a traditional welcome, with a challenge by fierce warriors, and by now the guests appreciate this is no standard show! Inside the sacred meeting house, guests are treated to a polished performance of song and dance - and they are invited to learn and join in if they wish. The extensive menu is delicious New Zealand fare, including a hangi. The evening progresses with the spectacular lighting of the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. As a finale, guests may wander around the illuminated natural attractions, including Pohutu Geyser, while enjoying more Maori delicacies and a hot drink.
